Just a month late with this post, but right now time’s a relative concept, so I’ll take it. 2021 was another restless and disturbing year in many respects, but we’ve had some good music come our way to keep us engaged and happy, so let’s talk about what I’ve been listening to recently and maybe you can tell me what you’ve enjoyed in 2021 too.
Last time I wrote up one of these Favourite Albums posts, it was the end of 2017, which I deemed a “clusterfuck” in all kinds of ways except musically. Do you remember that year when everyone famous died left right and centre? Well, hold my viral beer said 2020 and here we are with our backs on a difficult year for most and the hope for better days ahead. But we’re here to talk music.
Woah, is this year over yet? What a clusterfuck this year has seemed, at times. And, though little will suddenly change as a new day and year dawn, I remain hopeful and look ahead with open eyes and heart. If one thing helped me survive 2017, that’s music. Great new albums this year from many of my favourite artists, and some beautiful, heart-warming, and surreal concerts. Looking back at that makes me very happy.
Here we are again, then, looking back at another year and what a year 2016 turned out to be! Let’s focus on the musical highlights of the year, rather than its shadows. In no particular order, these are my favourite albums of the year we leave behind. It’s not a long list (and I confess there are still albums I’d like to have listened to more carefully and which may have ended up on this list), but it shines bright.
Every year, I collect my favourite albums and present them here and 2015 is no different. There are many that I still haven’t had a chance to listen to, so this list is perhaps a bit incomplete. No matter, here they are, in no particular order, except for the first track, which comes from my top album of 2015! Courtney Barnett’s “Sometimes I sit and think, sometimes I just sit”. Enjoy and let me know what you think!
